GMO’s (Genetically Modified Organisms)

What are you putting in your body today? As some of you work so hard on your outer man, are you working just as hard, if not harder, on your inner man? I am trying to be more informed about what I am putting in my body, especially the older I get. We’re hearing more and more about GMO’s and Non-GMO’s. So, what exactly are they and what foods are they most commonly found in?

GMO stands for Genetically Modified Organisms. This means an organism’s gene (the part of the cell that controls things like appearance, growth, of a living thing), has been modified (changed) by direct manipulation of a genome (the entirety of an organism's hereditary information) using biotechnology. New DNA may be inserted in the host genome by first isolating and copying the genetic material of interest using molecular cloning methods. (Wikipedia, 2014).

Non-GMO Products - All major GMO risk ingredients must be tested for compliance with the Non-GMO Project Standard prior to use in a Non-GMO Project Verified Product. The process is managed through a web-based application and evaluation program developed for the project. The project's seal indicates compliance with the standards. (Wikipedia, 2014).

Here is a list of some of the most common GMO products:

* Corn
* Soy
* Cotton
* Alfalfa Sprouts
* Potatoes
* Tomatoes
* Peas
* Papaya
* Rice
* Dairy Products
* Canola
* Zucchini
* Yellow Squash
* Aspartame

BEFORE YOU PLANT: Make sure to check out that packet of seeds before you buy. Many of the seeds contain GMO. You can get non-GMO seed from companies who have signed the Safe (non-GMO) Seed Pledge. 10 Ways to Start Changing YOUR life TODAY

  1. Get in the Word everyday. When I spend time with God first thing in the morning, I can tell a difference in how my day starts vs the days I don't. It doesn't matter how much time you spend, just that you spend some time with Him. You may find you have to get up a few minutes early, but I can guarantee, you will see a difference.
  2. Every morning write down at least five achievable goals and complete them. For example, "Clean my bedroom. Put away the load of laundry that's been sitting there for the past few days. Send out at least 3 resumes or complete at least 3 job applications. Call someone I've been putting off calling. Write 3 to 5 pages in my e-book." Then work your way to bigger goals. God’s grace is sufficient for today!
  3. Allow God to show you an area in your own life that you need to change, then do one thing today to start that change. One example would be to write down one Bible verse onto an index card about something you are dealing with, for example patience or anger, then study it and eventually memorize it. You have to change your thoughts first, which will then change your words. Read it, Think it, Speak it, Believe it, Repeat.
  4. Learn to follow inner peace as your answer.  Tune in to the Holy Spirit’s guidance. If you are trying to make a decision and your insides are churning, your sick to your stomach, can't sleep, having headaches, etc., you have to listen to that. Most times, peace is your answer.
  5. Do not run in fear! If you truly trust in God, you will follow faith (BELIEVING in what you cannot see). Fear will keep you from achieving goals. I know, I've been there. Many times in order to succeed, you have to "do it afraid".
  6. Do one thing today to start teaching your children how to trust and live by faith.Your children are watching how you handle situations. Start teaching them by your own words and actions. Be the change you want to see.
  7. Volunteer for something – a cause you are passionate about. Get out and help someone else. If you google volunteer opportunities in your area, I guarantee you will find needs. Once you get yourself off of your mind, it's amazing how much better you'll feel!
  8. Build someone else up. Find one person today and compliment them or share a kind word. Think about how you feel when someone says something nice to you, shares a smile, or takes time to say hello.
  9. There are no “get rich quick” jobs. Realize it will take hard work, persistence, and time to achieve success. So don’t give up on your dream! The more I've listened to successful people, the more I realize, it's taken them years to get to where they are. So, what if it takes you one, two, or even five years? If you start today, you are that much closer to living your own success story.
  10. Believe that God created you for good works. He has a good plan for your life that was planned out even before the world began. (Jeremiah 29:11 and Ephesians 2:10).

Do you ever look at your life and say, "I thought I would be in a different place by now? I thought I'd be __(fill in the blank)____." Well, 10, almost 11 years post-divorce, my life has gone through a lot of ups and downs, life changes, challenges, and experiences...I thought my life would look WAY different by now! ...Do you know what I wanted to be when I grew up? A wife and a stay-at-home mom. I didn't dream of owning my own company, or being rich and famous...But things don't always turn out as planned (I'm sure many of you can attest to that!)...And as life changes, dreams change too...

It brings me to this Bible verse, Proverbs 16:9 "A man’s mind plans his way, but the Lord directs his steps and makes them sure." So, as I look at my life today, it's time to stop "wishing". Like Joyce Meyer says, "You don't need wishbone, you need backbone"...

10 years from now I want to be able to say, "My life IS different. My life is exactly where I knew it could be!" ...If anyone else is feeling like me, don't give up on yourself...Even when others lose hope and faith in you, God doesn't! Even if it takes you longer than someone else to find healing in your life, NEVER lose hope, because one day it WILL happen!
I've already experienced breakthroughs, but am believing for a few more breakthroughs that are just taking a little longer than I thought...
