What is YOUR Purpose?

Do you ever wonder, “What is my purpose in this life?” Do ever feel like, "There has to be more than this?" This is something I have been meditating on and praying about for a while now. When God thought of you and of me, even before we were formed in our mother's wombs, He designed us for good works and for a purpose in this life. Unfortunately, many of us will never fulfill those purposes for many different reasons. It could be out of the fear of stepping out of your comfort zone and what you know, a feeling of complacency, living a life that pleases the world instead of the things of God, the fear of the unknown, and on and on the list will go.

Do you notice a pattern here? FEAR! Fear is a word that is not from God, but from the enemy. The enemy would like nothing more than to keep you and me from fulfilling the will of God. Fear keeps us in bondage, paralyzed, unable to think or take action. I’ve been hearing God recently, telling me it’s time to “Step out”...But my response was, “But step out where, and do what?” Have you been hearing God speak those same words to you?

During one of my morning Bible studies, a verse was presented that confirmed what God was telling me:

Matthew 9:35-38 (Amplified) “And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the good news (the Gospel) of the kingdom and curing all kinds of disease and every weakness and infirmity. When He saw the throngs, He was moved with pity and sympathy for them, because they were bewildered (harassed and distressed and dejected and helpless), like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, The harvest is indeed plentiful, but the laborers are few. So pray to the Lord of the harvest to force out and thrust laborers into His harvest.

Verse 38 is a “WOW” verse for me! God wants “force out and thrust laborers” out into the world to help others in need. I have come to realize that I am one who needs to be “forced out”! Forced out of my comfort zone, forced out of my fears of failure, forced out of the fear of the unknown!

Take some time to pray and ask God to show you what your purpose is in this life. He is faithful and true to His word and He will show you...I don’t believe we were put here to serve ourselves and our fleshly, worldly desires, but to serve and love others unconditionally. To serve and love others who are less fortunate than us. To think more highly of others than of ourselves....

Yes, God does want us to enjoy this life, the life He gave us, the life He sent His son Jesus as a sacrifice for us, to save us...and I do believe He wants to bless our lives! But, those are the “bonuses” of this life, they should not be our reason for living. We should live our lives in a way that we give without expecting in return…And by humbly living this way, God will bless you in ways you can never, ever, imagine!

Here is a great book to help you get started (along with your daily Bible studies): The Purpose Driven Life. I am praying for you, and for God's divine direction in each and every one of your lives!
