5 of My Favorite Maui Beaches

One of the main attractions for many travelers to a warm, sunny island, are the beaches. I like to stay active and on the move, so when we visit the beach, I like to spend a little time relaxing, sometime swimming, maybe some body surfing, and even snorkeling. How about a walk or run along the shore?

For those of you that enjoy relaxing on the beach, you will definitely find it here! Just remember to bring lots of sunscreen, a hat, or even a sunbrella ;)

Another tip: If you are in Maui during whale season, try this…Put your head beneath the water and sit as still and quiet as possible. You will hear the whales singing and communicating. It’s an amazing sound!

So, here are 5 of our favorite Maui Beaches:
  • Keawakapu Beach – This one was a new find for us and a new favorite! The day we went here, the beach was not busy at all. We enjoyed watching whales in the distance jumping out of the water and even had a sea turtle swim underneath us! It was an amazing day.
  •  D.T. Fleming Beach – This is one of the more popular, well-known beaches in the area.
  •  Ka'anapali Beach - We went to this beach for the snorkeling.
  • Makena Beach (Aka: Big Beach) – Plenty of beach for everyone to enjoy!
  • Slaughterhouse beach (Aka: Mokuleia Bay) – This was one of the kids favorite beaches. Mainly because of the really big waves! They called it the “Big Wave Beach”. The sandy beach area is smaller, so you may find it a little more crowded. We’ve been fortunate to go on days that have not been too busy. Just be careful, because the waves can get quite high.

There are so many more beautiful beaches, too many to cover here. I found a great link you can check out with more information: http://www.to-hawaii.com/maui/beaches/

Again I would recommend the book Maui Revealed (which is linked in my first Maui post), which covers beaches and so much more!

Safe travels!
